For Erik Baruch, the hardest part of his old job wasn’t the work — it was the night schedule.
Working nights left little time for life outside of work. He barely saw his girlfriend, and it started to wear on him.
Erik knew something needed to change.
He found an opportunity on Verstela’s website and decided to apply. Things moved very quickly after that.
Verstela’s Nashville, TN branch contacted him right away, brought him in for an interview – and he got the job!
“After I got my steel-toed shoes, I was able to start the following Monday,” he said.
Verstela placed Erik at a local door and trim company, where he began as a forklift driver. From day one, he focused on doing the right things: showing up, learning the ropes, and doing his best every day.
His hard work didn’t go unnoticed.
“Because of my performance, the company hired me on permanently,” Erik said.
And it didn’t stop there.
Just a month or two later, Erik’s strong work ethic earned him an even bigger opportunity — a promotion to Team Lead on the interior doors production line.
Today, Erik leads a crew of seven people.
“I have a really good group,” he said. “The people I work with are one of my favorite parts of the job.”
But the biggest change didn’t just happen at work.
This role came with a day shift — Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. That change made a huge difference in Erik’s life.
“When I worked nights, I only really spent time with my girlfriend on weekends,” he shared. “Now I get to see her every day.”
Plus, his commute is shorter, he gets paid more, and he likes that he can listen to music while he works – something he wasn’t allowed to do at his old job.
“It’s changed my life a lot, and I’m very happy,” Erik said.
When asked what advice he’d give someone looking for work, Erik kept it simple and encouraging.
“Don’t give up,” he said. “There are a lot of good jobs out there.”
And for anyone hoping to move up at work, Erik believes the basics still matter.
“Always do your best and don’t complain,” Erik said. “If you put in the extra effort and work hard, it will pay off.”
