Here’s his story in his own words.
“I’d recently moved from Chicago and was looking for something new in the Bolingbrook area. I had used other agencies before to find contract jobs. But when I found Verstela through my research, I was really hoping to land a permanent position and reduce my commute. I needed a role that could give me the stability I was seeking and allow me to be there for my daughter, who had just graduated and was living with me.
Jennifer Mendez in Bolingbrook reached out to me about an opportunity as a Warehouse Shift Supervisor. I had plenty of warehouse experience, but Jennifer encouraged me to keep an open mind and give it a try, even though I felt I might be overqualified. I took her advice, and once I started, I was pleasantly surprised.
The busy season hit right after I joined, and I found myself thriving in the fast-paced environment. I also loved the welcoming atmosphere—they have a bilingual work environment and really value diversity, which means a lot to me. It was great to feel a part of something that matched my values and where I could grow. The company is known for being a great place to work, and I even shopped there myself, so it felt like a brand I could get behind.
Since I accepted the job, everything has fallen into place. My daughter and I are now more settled, and I feel rooted in a way that I haven’t felt in a long time.
My advice? Don’t be afraid to start somewhere, even if it seems outside your plan. Stay focused and don’t limit yourself. A lot of people I know do that, but I’ve learned there’s no ceiling unless you put one there yourself.”
