After years in a remote desk job, Christopher Ortiz knew something was missing.
“I was working from home for a gambling company, managing production and streaming videos. It was just me and a screen—no coworkers, no interactions. It didn’t feel like me anymore. I needed something different, something where I could meet people and not just stare at a screen all day.
I’ve always known I’d work in a factory, and I wanted something close to home and hands-on.”
He connected with the Verstela team in Kenosha, WI and was set up with an interview for a Warehouse Associate position at a logistics company, just 10 minutes from his house!
“The interview went really well and I got the job! I just had a feeling I’d like it here because the people were so nice. I’ll admit I was a little nervous, though, when I first started. I hadn’t worked in-person or alongside a team in so long and I’m pretty shy. I was like, ‘Wait a minute, what did I do?’
But once I got the hang of it, everything just clicked. Now, I’m the go-to person when anyone new joins the team and needs training or translation help since I’m fluent in English and Spanish. The people here are definitely my favorite part of the job.
I’m also not as much of an introvert as I used to be! I like getting out more and connecting with people.”
