After spending five years working at a restaurant, Kira Dowty was ready for a change. While her time there had been meaningful — it’s where she met her husband — the job no longer provided the growth or benefits she needed.

“I was in a tough spot. I’d been applying through job boards to find something better quickly, which is how I got in touch with the Rensselaer team. When I came to the office to fill out paperwork, I had to bring my kids along and it was a bit stressful, but everyone on the team made me feel comfortable. They were just so polite and patient with my kids and even gave them treats so that I could talk with a recruiter privately. It was such a nice touch that made the experience stand out.
They introduced me to a production position at a plastics manufacturer just five minutes from home. It was the best pay I had seen and fit my schedule, even though it wasn’t my ideal shift. And once I started, I immediately felt a connection with the team on the 3rd shift — they were great, and I loved the people I was working with.
I’ve been working here for 9 weeks now, and I’m loving it. The job is really well-explained, and the staff is incredibly supportive. They’ve helped me every step of the way, and I’ve learned quickly with the guidance of a fantastic trainer. It’s a great environment where asking for help is encouraged, and that has made all the difference.
This role has also helped me and my family balance our schedules. My husband works 1st shift, so this job has allowed us to make the most of our time together.
