Before connecting with Verstela, Ian Clyde wasn’t sure what his future looked like.

He was working delivery jobs while going to school, trying to figure out what direction to take.

“I knew I needed to do something that could turn into more of a career — not just a job,” Ian said.

He had a little exposure to accounting in the past, but nothing serious. Still, it seemed like a path that could lead somewhere stable. So when he saw an accounting job posting online, he applied. It was a temporary, part-time role helping digitize documents for an accounting team. It was a perfect fit for his schedule while he continued his college classes—and it gave him a chance to get his foot in the door.

That’s when Lisa Crane from Verstela’s Richardson, TX branch reached out.

“I got a call from Lisa and she got me an interview with the company,” Ian said. “And they really liked me.”

Ian took the job seriously.  Not long after, a new accounting manager joined the team.

“Once she came on, she started working with me, and it just kind of snowballed from there,” Ian said.

His manager helped map out what growth looks like — from general accountant to junior, and eventually senior accountant. And with just one semester left to earn his bachelor’s degree in accounting, Ian is getting closer to that next step.

That short 2–3-month temp assignment turned into something much bigger. Ian moved into a permanent role with more responsibility. Today, he handles tasks like credit card and bank reconciliations and is gaining real accounting experience every day.

“The thing I like about accounting is that it’s right or it’s wrong,” Ian explained. “It’s just facts.”

But what stands out most to Ian isn’t just the work.

“I didn’t really have a direction before. I was kind of just out in the wind… not really knowing what I was going to do,” he said. “Now I do.”

Ian also credits Lisa for helping him get started and supporting him along the way.

“She checked in with me a lot to make sure I was comfortable. I remember my first week, I talked to her every single day after work,” he said. “I honestly can’t praise her enough.”

Looking back, Ian knows this opportunity didn’t happen because he had everything figured out — it came from being open to trying something new and putting in the effort.

“If you show eagerness, that’s what’s going to get somebody to see you and want to invest in you. Be eager to learn. Be kind. Be respectful.”

For Ian, that mindset made all the difference. What started as a small, temporary role turned into something much more — a career path, a goal to work toward, and a future he feels confident about.

We’re really glad Ian trusted Verstela to help him take that first step, and it’s been great to see how far he’s come.
