After years of hard work, Marco Hernandez felt stuck.
For four years, Marco worked as a lead at a logistics warehouse. He was dependable, stepped up when needed, and kept things running smoothly. Like many ambitious workers, Marco believed that if he went above and beyond, it would eventually pay off.
But when he asked for a raise, the answer was always the same: “Not this time.”
As the cost of living went up, Marco’s pay didn’t. What once felt manageable started to feel stressful. When management changed and the work environment became toxic, Marco realized the job he once relied on had turned into a dead end.
Marco knew he needed more money. He also knew he deserved it. Deciding to look for a new job was easy. Finding one was not.
“Looking for a new job was harder than I thought it would be,” Marco said.
Even with years of experience, he kept hearing the same things — that he was overqualified, or companies couldn’t match his pay. He had great experience but still felt like he was being told to settle for less.
That’s when Marco found Verstela.
He connected with Renee Montgomery at Verstela’s San Antonio, TX branch. Renee took the time to listen and understand what Marco was looking for — not just any job, but something that made sense for his experience and his life.
“Renee is an exceptional person,” Marco said. “She helped me out tremendously.”
And getting a job with Verstela’s help was fast.
Renee shared several options, and in less than two weeks, Marco accepted a new role as a forklift operator.
Today, Marco works in a warehouse that’s organized, well-run, and supportive. The hours fit his life, and instead of spending most of his day behind a computer, he’s active and hands-on again.
“I love it,” Marco said. “It’s a much better environment.”
The new job has made a real difference outside of work, too. “The pay is more and I have health insurance for the first time! With the cost of living going up, that changed everything for me.” He’s part of a small, close-knit team and has built real friendships at work.
While Marco will always work hard, he learned something important — hard work deserves to be recognized. And when you’re giving your all and still feeling overlooked, sometimes the answer is to find something better.
His advice for others who feel stuck and want to avoid a frustrating job search?
