Ending a Six-Month Struggle to Fill a Leadership Role

Overview

When a key leadership role sat vacant for months, a Midwest packaging manufacturer felt the strain. Morale dipped, supervisors stretched thin, and the pressure to find the right hire grew by the day. That’s when Verstela stepped in.

The backstory

The company had parted ways with their 2nd shift Production Supervisor after performance concerns left the team falling short of production goals. Filling the role proved harder than expected.

Two agencies had tried and failed: across four months, they presented about ten candidates, none of whom were hired. Then the flow of applicants stopped completely, leaving two more months of silence. Meanwhile, assistant supervisors and the Director of Operations were covering the gap, creating burnout risk on one of the most demanding shifts.

By June, the role had been open for nearly half a year, and the lack of leadership had become a serious roadblock.

The approach

Verstela’s Professional & Technical staffing team quickly brought structure and focus to a search that had stalled for months. Instead of cycling through candidates who weren’t the right fit, we worked with HR to clarify exactly what the role required, aligned on expectations, and stayed in steady contact to keep the search moving. That combination of clarity, collaboration, and follow-through gave the process the momentum it had been missing.
