Rey Chhorn was determined to find a job that was more than just a paycheck. He wanted a workplace where he felt valued and free to be himself.
Here’s how Rey discovered the perfect role for him.
“After a difficult work experience, I took some time to regroup and reset. I told myself that my next job had to be better than the last, especially since being micromanaged caused me so much stress and anxiety. I know my strengths, and when I’m unsure about something, I’m not afraid to ask questions. I wanted to work in an environment where it was OK to do that.
But by the end of the month, I needed to get back to working full-time again. I was ready to settle for something that I didn’t hate.
That was my mindset when I went into the Tukwila office and met with Ruslana, a recruiter there, to talk about a production position on the second shift. But that was just me being like, ‘This sounds like something I should do because I need a job.’
During our conversation, I told her that something on the first shift would be great, and if I could do computer work, that’s all I could ask for.
As fate would have it, Ruslana had another great opportunity come in that morning from the same company—a Data Entry role on a day shift schedule!
She set me up with an interview and when I met with the supervisors, they took the time to listen and shared their own personal reflections and experiences. They were very open and helped break the ice, to make me feel comfortable. And at the end of the interview, they asked me when I could start!
On the inside, I was like, ‘I have to decide right now!? If I say no, this might be it!’
But I went with my gut and accepted their job offer. I came out of that interview with a feeling of excitement. It felt different than other jobs I’ve accepted. Something felt more right about this job.
Now I’ve been here for a few months, and I love it. I’m thinking more positively than I ever have and I can see myself being here for a long time. I can be myself at work, I understand the work, I like the location and there are career growth opportunities if I ever want to move up.
And working the day shift fits my lifestyle completely. All my loved ones work on the first shift, so it’s really nice to be able to drop in and see my niece and nephew on a Wednesday afternoon.
It reminds me of something my supervisor shared that totally stayed with me. He said, ‘You don’t live to work; you work to live.’ I completely agree!”
Ruslana couldn’t be happier for Rey, and shared, “Rey is a wonderful person, and I feel lucky to have connected him with this company. His supervisor says that Rey is amazing and doing a really good job!”
Congratulations, Rey! We’re thrilled to have helped you find a role where you can flourish.
