When Kalambay Mukeba reached out to Verstela’s Scottsdale branch, he wasn’t just looking for a paycheck — he was looking for a new beginning.
“I needed a new career,” he said. “I needed to find a passion.”
Before Verstela, Kalambay had been working day labor jobs and temporary gigs, trying to find his footing after incarceration. None of it felt consistent or fulfilling. He was ready for a path forward — one with structure, purpose, and the chance to grow.
He connected with recruiters Stephanie and Guadalupe, who helped him land a warehouse role.
“I like that I’m able to grow, work with a team, and be held accountable,” he said. “That matters to me.”
So does consistency. Kalambay found a rhythm that gave him more than just a routine — it gave him confidence.
“I could keep coming to work on time, and no matter how the day’s going, I can keep working,” he said. “That keeps me grounded.”
That stability has created a real shift in his life.
“I can pay my rent. I feel present and active in my own home,” he said. “It’s a good experience coming to work every single day and enjoying myself.”
And outside of work? He’s doing more of what he loves.
“I’ve been able to go places. I go out on dates. I go to movies. I use what I earn to make sure my friends are all right,” he said. “There’s time for myself and there’s time for others.”
When asked what advice he’d give to someone looking for a job, Kalambay didn’t hesitate.
“Keep your nose down and stay driven,” he said. “If you work hard in life, things will come to you. And Verstela has so many opportunities. If one role doesn’t work out, they help you find another — and you just keep building.”
As for what stands out most in his job?
“I have a place that’s reliable,” he said. “I have the key to my work. I can come back and be myself. A lot of people don’t get that — but for me, it means everything.”
Kalambay has found what he was looking for — steady work, a supportive team, and a place where he can keep growing.
