For Toma Fitzgerald, plumbing has always felt natural. Starting out at just 15, he was digging trenches and learning the trade, and by 17, he was already trusted to run his own truck. “Plumbing just always made sense to me,” Toma explained. “It felt right from the start.”
Over the years, Toma’s career evolved beyond just working in the field. He built four plumbing businesses, grew them to success, and eventually sold them. But after that chapter, he was ready for something new.

“I found myself sitting at home one day and I realized—I think I want to work for someone this time. I want to pass my knowledge on to other plumbers before I get too old, as my kids say.
So, I posted my resume online, and Kate Murphy in Scottsdale noticed it and reached out about this Plumbing Manager position.
She was just awesome from day one. I can tell you, communication-wise, she was phenomenal. I’ve run businesses and this was the most thorough interaction I’ve ever had. She told me about this plumbing company and gave me all the information I needed to research them. I also wanted to know about them as people, and she gave me that info, too. Kate thought it would be a good fit—she was right on the money.
When I met with the owner for an interview over lunch, we just clicked. He gave me insight into the work culture and allowed me to ask a lot of questions.
After two rounds of interviews, I accepted a job offer as a Plumbing Manager. I just felt it was going to be a phenomenal fit. And I like their bonus structure. They’re fair. If you produce more, they give you more.
Now that I’ve been here for a few weeks, I can say this job is better than I expected. I have a lot more autonomy here and I can spread the knowledge that I have to help make the team better plumbers and give them directions when they ask or need it.
The people are very welcoming, very helpful. I see now why some of their employees have worked here for 20-30 years.”
